As well as running the Indy Coffee Box we also publish the award-winning Independent Coffee Guides. Inclusion in the guides is by invite only and they showcase the best independent speciality cafes, coffee shops and coffee roasteries in the UK.

We travel the country seeking out the best beans from the best roasters, which means we’re able to bring you some great tasting, rare and exclusive coffees you wouldn’t otherwise know about.

After almost two years of exclusively virtual events, we were buzzing to launch the new North, Midlands & North Wales edition of the guide and catch up with the speciality coffee community at Manchester Coffee Festival.

The launch event went down at 200 Degrees roastery in central Manchester, the night before Manchester Coffee Festival officially opened. Roasters, cafe owners, baristas and coffee folk congregated to get a first peek at the new guide, hear talks from our party partner The Kore Collective, and catch up over craft beers and cocktails.

The main event was, as always, a latte-art throwdown, where 20 baristas battled it out for the prize. After four intense rounds, Melissa Auguillon Lopez of WatchHouse in London scooped top honours with her animal-inspired latte art.

The next day we were up early for a day of coffee slurping, scoffing and caffeinated chitchat at the festival.

The two-day event included coffee talks from industry pros, guided tastings, live music and the SCA UK Cup Tasters Championships. The region’s best roasteries were also in attendance, giving us the chance to sample some of the best beans in the country, chat to the roasters about all things coffee and line up some flavour-popping beans for the Indy Coffee Box.

The whole weekend was a rip-roaring success and a reminder of how the Indy Coffee Guides and coffee events allow us to stay connected with our roasting partners and bring you the best coffee from independent speciality coffee roasters via the Indy Coffee Box.
