Established before coffee was even a commodity, Thomson’s may be Scotland’s oldest roastery but it’s also one of the trendsetters steering the speciality scene.
‘We’ve got 176 years of experience,’ says managing director Russell Jenkins, ‘but we embrace our history instead of being bound by it.’
The latest innovations at Thomson’s huge HQ beneath Glasgow Central Station include the introduction of tailored coffee courses, a slick machine showroom kitted out with state-of-the-art gear and a string of new direct trade coffees.
‘WE EMBRACE OUR HISTORY INSTEAD OF BEING BOUND BY IT’
The roasting of the expansive range of blends and single origins takes place Monday to Thursday on the vintage Whitmee Flame Roaster and a tech-savvy Loring Smart Roast.
From Friday to Sunday, Thomson’s opens its doors to the public, so curious coffee fans can sample the latest batch in the cafe before having a snoop around the roastery.
