After two years pulling espresso and crafting filters at their Oxford coffee shop, Quarter Horse founders Nathan and Ameeta relocated to Ameeta’s hometown of Birmingham to fulfil their dream of roasting the coffee they serve.
Nothing beats sipping an expertly prepared espresso while enjoying the mesmeric whir of the roaster, and their roomy venue (a short stroll from the city centre) was one of the first cafe/roastery hybrids to open outside of London.
Nathan and team fire up the Giesen two to three times a week, carefully bronzing beans for HQ as well as for a string of speciality coffee shops and wholesale partners.
‘QUARTER HORSE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST CAFE/ROASTERY HYBRIDS OUTSIDE OF LONDON’
The experience is enhanced by the fact that the huge range of single origins and blends have been selected and roasted by Q grader Nathan (he recently gained his creds), with many of them sourced from womenproducer lots. If you can’t make it to HQ, order the latest batch online.
