There are worse views to ponder while you work than the vista of Snowdon from Poblado Coffi’s exquarrymen’s- barracks roastery.
At this blustery valley setting some of the best beans in the world are respectfully – and sometimes experimentally – roasted to create a range of exceptional single origins and blends.
Currently a 15kg Giesen does the job but it wasn’t long ago that Poblado was a garden-shed operation. From those humble beginnings the business has grown to become a beacon of the burgeoning Welsh speciality scene.

In addition to his aim to treat customers to stonking beans, founder Steffan Huws also has ethical considerations at heart and ensures that the top-notch lots he buys from Africa, the Americas and Asia are scrupulously fairly traded. Long-term relationships with growers are prioritised and certifications – including Rainforest Alliance – wholly supported, so that the coffee is sustainable to the last drop.
