The innovation-fuelled team at Grindsmith have taken another step in their journey this year with the launch of a speciality roastery and coffee laboratory.
It follows the introduction of a coffee pod in 2014, followed by the co-working cafe space on Deansgate and then the creation of its Media City cathedral to coffee in 2016.
Based in Ancoats – the former heart of Manchester’s industrial revolution – the roasting team continue to embody the city’s busy-bee ethos through the baking of beans imported from all over the world.
‘Our aim is to help Manchester push the boundaries’
The new hive of innovation focuses on roasting, quality control and research. Phase two will see the development of a barista training academy on site.
New kit at the slick space includes the purchase of a Loring Smart Roast, with its odourless, flavour-locking roasting system, and a coffee laboratory.
Grindsmith co-founder Pete Gibson says, ‘Our aim is to become a centre of excellence and innovation within the industry, and help Manchester push the boundaries of knowledge and research within speciality coffee.’
